Goalfest for Saints tames Lions

SAWTELL continued their golden run leading into the final series with a 10-goal victory over a gallant Lions outfit at Richardson Park.

The Lions were able to restrain Sawtell’s scoring prowess at stages, but inevitably the class of the premiership favourites shone through in the final result.

Mark Couzens marked his return from injury with three goals.

He proved a strong foil for Ben Hooke, who strengthened his lead on top of the goal-kicking tally with another six goals. The Saints held a six-goal margin at half-time and despite Nambucca becoming more threatening in front of goal in the third term, they rallied to extend their lead at every chance.

The midfield division was again impressive with Jai Hardy and the ever-reliable Luke Matthews dominating the key statistics. Eric Linares proved a target, yet, was the only multiple goal kicker for the Lions, as Aaron Clarke’s influence was well nullified.

The win heightens the likelihood of the Saints finishing the regular season undefeated with only four rounds remaining.
