Smokin' Joe Robinson to play at charity dinner
THE Coffs Coast will have the talent this weekend, when a special charity dinner in Macksville plays host to Smokin' Joe Robinson, the young guitarist who won this year's Australia's Got Talent television show.
Star in the making Smokin' Joe, 16, will make a guest appearance at a charity dinner for Ronald McDonald House organised by local Shelley Robinson, the mother of a young girl who has been battling to stay alive all of her short life.
Olivia Robinson was born with a Wilms' tumour, which meant she had to have a kidney removed earlier this year, and for the past few months she's been undergoing chemotherapy for stage III cancer - and all before her first birthday.
Her mother, Shelley, said Olivia had her last chemo treatment last week and will now undergo testing every 12 weeks. “After two years of this we can start to celebrate, and she'll be classified as 'cured' after five years,” Shelley said.
“Olivia is doing amazing and in just a few weeks we will celebrate our first Christmas with her and her first birthday on the 27th.”
The night will feature dinner, prize giveaways, live entertainment including a special appearance by Smokin' Joe Robinson, and a charity auction of signed memorabilia and weekend holiday escapes.
Macksville Country Club is hosting the event on December 13 at 6.30pm; tickets are $45 and include a receipt to claim $22 back on tax.
Ticket sales must be final by Friday, call 6569 9080 for details.
