Clarke hits back at reports of disunity, wives spat

MICHAEL Clarke has hit back at reports of a split in the Australian dressing room as "a load of s---".

"I can guarantee you the feeling in this group is exceptional. There's no disharmony in this group whatsoever. The players are as tight as any team I've been a part of," he told Triple M on Monday morning.

"When you don't perform there's always going to be Chinese whispers and 'he [says], she [says]'.

"Travelling in different cars? What a load of s---.

"Wives and girlfriends being on tour is a distraction? What a load of s---. That's absolute garbage.

"At the end of the day the players are the ones who walk onto the field, we have to perform and we haven't performed well enough," he said.

Clarke credited his wife Kyly for part of his success, Fairfax reported.

The Courier Mail  reported a rift between captain Michael Clarke and the rest of the team under the headline "Family feuds fuelled captain Michael Clarke's decision to declare his innings over."

The story said that Clarke's refusal to travel and socialise with the team had caused problems.

"He often chooses to travel by private car instead of the team bus and rarely attends team get-togethers," it stated.

The newspaper said after deciding to step down as captain, Clarke joined team mates in a hotel bar but "ended the night drowning his sorrows with former team mate Shane Warne rather than any of the current side."

The story added: "While the divide between captain and team will not be an issue with incoming skipper Steven Smith, the question of whether wives, girlfriends and children should be allowed on tour will continue to be a minefield.

"It is known that the wives of two senior players do not get along and this has caused friction between their husbands, as has been the case with personality clashes between WAGS on previous tours."
