Sparks fly at police station

A MAN caught carrying cannabis and a commercial firework inside the local police station has been fined in court.

Jason James Cassidy, 18, was this week found guilty of possessing a prohibited drug and carrying explosives without an authorised licence.

The court was told he went to the Coffs Harbour Police Station on April 26 at 5.50am to talk to officers about an unrelated incident.

Speaking to officers, he was asked whether he was in possession of any dangerous or illegal items.

He handed over a bag he was carrying and a search found a small resealable bag inside containing three grams of cannabis. In another compartment of the bag police found the firework which officers described as a “large commercial bunger”.

Cassidy was ordered to pay $500 over the drug offence and $300 for the firework plus $76 in court costs.
