Toowoomba's NB Style boss follows her passion for fashion
SONYA De Witt may have grown up in China, but she firmly believes Toowoomba is her home.
Thanks to a lifetime of passion for fashion, Ms De Witt opened NB Style in Ruthven St in 2010.
She was born and raised in China and graduated from university in Beijing with a teaching degree.
"Mum and Dad were academics so I was inspired by them," she said.
While she lived in Beijing, Ms De Witt taught English.
She made the move to Australia - but lived in Perth before Toowoomba - after she married an Australian man in China.
"We were married on the day of the massacre (in Tiananmen Square)," she said.
"We couldn't go to our wedding venue after so we just went home with our families to celebrate."
Ms De Witt said she came to Australia with her husband when the Australian embassy asked him to return home.
The couple settled in Perth before moving to the Sunshine Coast to open a bistro before coming to Toowoomba.
The couple have three children, but sadly her husband passed away.
She now manages NB Style and teaches mandarin at Toowoomba Anglican College and Preparatory School a few days a week.
She said an average day at the shop involved tidying, restocking, ordering stock, answering queries and helping customers.
