Sneak peek at new youth centre

BELLINGEN'S youth have had a sneak peak of the new centre dedicated entirely to them.

The Bellingen Youth Development Centre was one of only five funded by the Federal Government across Australia.

It was allocated $2 million to build a facility to provide a range of support and recreational services to the youth of the Shire.

While the final touches are still being completed, there is already a great energy surrounding the youth facility.

Those who took the chance for this week's tour were unanimous in their response, describing it as "amazing"and awesome"

The chair of the Youth Development Centre Management Committee, Liesal Seigel said that kids were particularly impressed that a facility had been built just for them.

"The building is such a fantastic space for youth and will give our amazing community organisations the opportunity to work together to address some of the issues that face our Shire youth," Ms Seigel said.

Mayor Mark Troy said the centre highlighted how the council is committed to young people in the Shire.

"The Bellingen Youth Development Centre will allow Council and the community to take a coordinated approach to providing services that address the needs of our youth," Cr Troy said.

The community will have an opportunity to take a look for themselves in the next few weeks with a Community Open Day already in the planning for the third weekend in July.

While the building itself is nearly ready there are still items that need to fill the space.

Any business or community member interested in contributing to the fit out of the centre should contact the Council.
