Snappers and Pirates visit the Last Chance Saloon

THEY call it TG Jung Quarries Rugby Field these days but when Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie go into battle at 3pm today, it's temporarily the Last Chance Saloon for both clubs.

The preliminary final is the cruellest game of all if you lose and only one team will emerge to face unbeaten Hastings Valley in next Saturday's grand final at Oxley Oval.

After being smashed by the Vikings in the major semi, the Snappers have a lot of ground to make up and coach Rob Waddy admits the visitors deserve favouritism after eliminating Kempsey.

"Our big advantage is having Waqa Yaya back fresh from two weeks in Fiji, along with Lachie Miller who missed the Hastings match," he said.

"Unfortunately, we lose Matt Schultz after he sustained a leg fracture last Saturday. It was only three weeks ago we were saying how few injuries there were this year and then we lost Andy Levett and now Matt, with several other niggling injuries.

"The Vikings' loss was clearly disappointing and while it's a dream to make a grand final, there is plenty to play for."

Waddy is counting on scrum half Stuart McVicar to master veteran opponent Chris Young so there is plenty of opportunity around the ruck and scrum to move forward.

Likewise, the Coffs pack must get on top of the unknown Pirates' scrum.
