Snappers and Marlins chasing premierships on rugby's big day

MARLINS and Snappers will have teams engaged in Saturday's Mid North Coast Rugby grand finals at Oxley Oval in Port Macquarie.

The Coffs Coast teams faced off each other in weekend preliminary finals with Coffs Harbour taking out reserve grade and Southern Cross University the under-16s.

However, the main event will see Port Pirates chasing a third straight title after eliminating Kempsey Cannonballs in a hard-fought battle.

The game was in stalemate for most of the first session with the Pirates holding the advantage.

However, the game came alive in the latter stages with Cannonballs scoring twice to snatch a 22-15 lead with 10 minutes to go.

Their world collapsed when the home side hit top gear to score two tries of their own and finish 32-22 winners.

Minor premiers Hastings Valley remain warm favourites to take the title.
