Sleepout raises vital awareness

RECORD funds have been raised for homelessness in our region from the third annual C.ex Community Crew Sleep Out.

The fundraiser event was held at C.ex Coffs International Stadium last Wednesday and involved 60 local residents braving the four-degree overnight temperatures and morning mist in an effort to raise awareness and funds for homelessness in our region.

As of yesterday, the event had raised more than $42,000 for charity, with the funds being evenly distributed between the Men’s Resource Centre, Homes for Heroes and Warrina Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Service.

Every night there are 105,000 people in Australia who don’t have a safe place to call home.

It could be friends and colleagues or people in your local community. Often, through no fault of their own, families are facing crisis situations that leave them mentally, physically and financially at risk.

Without support, these situations can quickly spiral out of control. Families are losing grip on secure housing and face the very real prospect of sleeping out in the cold.

The Coffs Harbour Chamber of Commerce, The Edge Real Estate, Key Employment, Geoff King Motors, Opal Cove, Saso Creative, St George Bank, Blue Sky IT Consulting, Community Care Options and Nortec all had employees participate in the sleep out together with the C.ex Community Crew members.
