Titles come calling for local tennis star

COFFS Harbour tennis star, Chanel Cunningham and her college team in the US have taken out a National Championship.

The budding tennis star heaped praise on her former local tennis coach Danny Sousa who has been instrumental in her career so far.

" I could not have made it this far without Danny Sousa, my former Coach of 10 years," Cunningham said.

"Im looking forward to my senior year of college playing for Auburn University Montgomery (AUM) and hoping we can bring the National championship home again next year to finish off my career."

The victory set a new benchmark in the University's 13 year history, winning the past three championships.

"That was AUM's 3rd straight national championship and their ninth in 10 years of the 13 year program history," she said.

While the national championship was the culmination of an incredible year on the court, Cunningham added there was another award which came her way which she's just as proud of.

"Yes I won the NAIA Champions of Character award for my team which is based on respect, responsibility, leadership, integrity and sportsmanship," she said.
