Slain cop's mother and sister not told about bravery award

THE heartache continues for slain Gold Coast police officer Damian Leeding's mum after she was left off the guest list and kept in the dark about his posthumous bravery award last week.

Detective Senior Constable Leeding was killed in the line of duty courageously trying to foil an armed hold-up at the Pacific Pines Tavern in May 2011.

He was posthumously awarded an Australian Bravery Medal in a ceremony at Government House last week.

But while Det Sen-Const Leeding's widow Sonya attended the ceremony to accept the award from Governor Paul de Jersey, Glitter Strip Bare understands neither his mother Julie Waters nor two sisters Chantelle and Hayley were invited or even told about the event.

Sources say the first they knew of it was when they saw it on the nightly news.
