Six years after woman killed, man arrested in Charleville

IT HAS taken more than six years, but Queensland Police have now arrested a 42-year-old man following the suspected murder of Laine Coldwell, a woman whose body was found in August 2009.

It was reported to police that 36-year-old Ms Coldwell sustained a severe head injury when she fell from a tree while removing Christmas lights at her Walter St home on August 23, 2009. She was allegedly on her own at the time.

The man's arrest follows an investigation by the Homicide Investigation Unit's Cold Case squad.

In 2014 detectives from the unit travelled to Charleville to investigate what they called inconsistencies in the case.

At that time Detective Inspector Mick Dowie was quoted appealing for local assistance and for witnesses to come forward.

In 2014 he said, "some ambiguities have been reported to us and (have) not been totally consistent with the medical evidence that we're getting with regards to Lainie's condition."

The man will appear in a Brisbane Court tomorrow.
