Six-point election list on agenda

COFFS Harbour City councillors will consider a mayoral minute on election priorities at tomorrow’s council meeting.

While the thrust of the minute is to support the local Government and Shires Association’s six-point list of election priorities for 2011, councillors will also be asked to approve a letter to the member for Coffs Harbour Andrew Fraser asking for his response, not only to the LGSA’s six themes but also to four issues of local relevance.

These are: repeal of Part 3A planning under the EP&A Act which is affecting a number of local developments; location of the proposed new NSW Government offices in the CBD and not on the proposed Forests NSW depot site in Beryl St; investment and partnerships for the Bruxner Park/Ulidarra Ecotourism Project for development of a cafe, high ropes course, interpretive centre and connection to other activities; pursuing development opportunities, creating a high-quality environment and investing in harbour infrastructure at the Harbour and Jetty Foreshores and developing a statewide framework to enable coastal councils to develop consistent local policies.

The six LGSA election 2011 themes are improved local government financial viability; restoring the balance to land use planning; stronger support for communities; greater natural environment protection; enhanced infrastructure provision and maintenance and better local governance.
