Sir Elton John hospitalised with rare infection

SIR Elton John has cancelled a string of performances in the US after spending two nights in intensive care.

His entire performance schedule for the upcoming April/May run of The Million Dollar Piano at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas has been canned, as has a scheduled performance for Bakersfield, California, on May 6, Sky News has reported.

It was announced in February that Sir Elton John is bringing his 'Once in a Lifetime' tour to Mackay, playing at BB Print Stadium in September.

According to a statement from PR firm Rogers and Cowan, Sir Elton contracted a bacterial infection after his South American tour and became 'violently ill' on his flight home from Chile. He was admitted to the hospital when he returned home to the UK, and spent two nights in intensive care.

Some news agencies are reporting he had spent up to 12 days in hospital, including the two nights in intensive care.

He was released from the hospital on Saturday, and was now "comfortably resting at home per doctor's advice".

He is expected to make a full recovery, and is set to resume performing in Twickenham, England, on June 3.

"I am so fortunate to have the most incredible and loyal fans and apologise for disappointing them. I am extremely grateful to the medical team for their excellence in looking after me so well," Sir Elton said in a statement.
