A sight to be behold
THE pride of Beryl Ibbett's garden is in full bloom, a magnificent magnolia.
The deciduous trees are said to usher in spring by flowering in winter for just a few weeks.
"It is a beautiful tree grown from a cutting that my husband took from a magnolia we had growing in our yard in Sydney, 34 to 35 years ago now," Mrs Ibbett said.
For just a few weeks each year, the flowering magnolia stops traffic on Sawtell Rd.
Discovered by European travellers in the 18th Century growing around the Himalayas and throughout China, magnolias stunned the western world as the most exquisite flowering tree ever seen.
