Showers, thunderstorm predicted for Toowoomba

THE Bureau of Meteorology has predicted Toowoomba will see showers starting from today, with a possibility of a thunderstorm tomorrow afternoon.

BoM forecaster Lachlan Stoney said the partly cloudy weather would build today.

"There is a slight chance of showers in Toowoomba today, around 30 per cent," Mr Stoney said.

"It will be more likely tomorrow, probably around 40 per cent, with patchy cloud building in the afternoon.

"This will lead into a slight chance of a thunderstorm, residents could hear a rumble of thunder tomorrow afternoon."

Mr Stoney said the chance of shower and thunderstorms was caused by a disturbance in the upper atmosphere.

"This helps to enhance storms and cloud cover," Mr Stoney said.

"The disturbance helps to grow and produce rain, with more moisture coming in from the east.'

Mr Stoney said the likelihood of showers would drop off on Friday, with slightly warmer weather expected at the weekend.

"It will be a pretty nice weekend, light winds and plenty of sunshine," he said.
