Short listed for striving and achieving goals in local business

A LOCAl solicitor has been short-listed in one of the Australian legal fraternity's top industry awards.

Cassandra Banks, a solicitor based at Susan Green Legal Practice and president of the Clarence River and Coffs Harbour Regional Law Society, is in the running for an award in Thought Leader of the Year for the 2017 Women in Law Awards.

Humbled by the nomination, Cassandra said her submission for the award was centred around the importance of regional areas and ensuring regional voices are heard in relation to issues such as access to justice, appropriate resourcing in regional areas and information sharing between city and country.

Currently in its sixth year, the Women in Law Awards, hosted by Lawyers Weekly, covers 20 categories recognising individual excellence in law.

Lawyers Weekly features editor, Emma Ryan, said the awards give women a chance to demonstrate their contribution to, and impact on, the law.

"The Lawyers Weekly Women in Law Awards identifies top female talent across Australia who strive for professional excellence within their specific practice areas," Ms Ryan said.

Winners will be announced on Friday, October 20.
