Sheehan short in his Open quest

PROOF of how cut-throat the world of professional golf is was offered on Tuesday at the Australian qualifier for this year’s British Open.

Coffs Harbour golfer Paul Sheehan was still fresh from his victory in the Victorian Open and played a solid 36 holes at Kingston Heath but it wasn’t enough.

Sheehan shot matching rounds of 69 on the challenging layout.

However, only the three players who produced the best rounds on Tuesday qualified for the world’s oldest major tournament and Sheehan missed out on a third start in the Open by only two shots.

The 33-year-old will be hoping his run of good form can continue for at least another week when he tees-off in the opening round of the Victorian PGA tomorrow.
