Flying fox causes blackout

AS many as 2800 households were in the dark on Tuesday night when power outages stretched from Karangi to Boambee and Emerald Beach.

A fault at the connection point of the overhead and underground electricity network between Karangi and Boambee caused a supply cut to 1800 households from 9pm.

“The fault was isolated and power supply restored to all customers by 10.45pm,” Country Energy regional general manager Andrew Latta said.

At Emerald Beach, a flying fox was found to be the cause of a power cut to about 1000 properties just after 9.30pm.

“Crews identified the issue and restored power to all customers by 11.30pm,” Mr Latta said.

“We apologise to customers for the inconvenience.

“Customers who experience any interruption to power supply should call Country Energy on 13 23 56.”
