Shedding kilos and excuses for a healthier lifestyle
MARK Treasure may be sinking beers with the boys for a mate's 50th in Tassie this weekend but first thing Monday morning he'll be training with personal trainer Giri Kumar to hold himself accountable for his indulgence.
"It's easy to fall off the wagon on weekends but having a personal training session Monday morning puts me on the right track again for the week,” he said.
With this week being Men's Health Week, men and boys are being reminded to make healthy lifestyle choices to minimise the risk of developing heart problems later in life.
After multiple health scares and tipping the scales at 140kg four years ago, Mr Treasure knew he had to make serious changes.
"I wasn't eating breakfast or lunch and then I'd come home and have a huge dinner of red meat, cheese and lots of beer,” he said.
"Working 14-hour days I struggled to find time to exercise and lacked energy and motivation.”
Having lost 20kg, the 54-year-old now eats three meals throughout the day and exercises regularly, with his daughter following suit.
"My lifestyle changes have rubbed off on her and she now has a regular exercise pattern of her own,” he said.
"Exercising has not only had a positive impact on my physical health but mental health as well. Both my body and mind feel a lot better.”
Snap Fitness personal trainer Mr Kumar believes Mr Treasure's willingness to make changes is what has made his journey in achieving a healthier lifestyle so successful.
"His mental strength is phenomenal,” he said.
Mr Treasure said the gym helped keep him on track.
"Snap Fitness is great because there's clubs all over Australia so there's no excuse not to work out when you're on holidays,” he said.
"Although the owner, Justin Garvie could afford a few more workouts,” he chuckled.
