Car ploughs into Coffs shopfront

AN ELDERLY driver seemingly mistook the accelerator for the brake, ploughing into the shop front of a Coffs Harbour business yesterday morning.

Police were called to the vacuum and appliance store in Little Street shortly after 10am.

The man’s Daewoo hatchback mounted the gutter and rammed into the shop front, shattering a plate glass window.

The driver was breath tested but did not register a reading. Police said it appeared he put the vehicle into drive instead of reverse and accelerated. The driver was questioned but is unlikely to be charged.

The vehicle sustained damage to the bonnet and front panels. It’s expected the broken window should be covered by insurance.
