Sharpe's best week

SANDY Beach surfer Jayke Sharpe has recorded his best ever ASP result reaching the semi-finals of the Sri Lankan Airlines Pro.

Sharpe was beaten in the semi-final by American Nat Young but the 22-year-old was thrilled with the 1688 rankings points he collected for his sterling effort.

“No complaints,” Sharpe said after being eliminated.

“That’s my best-ever result and the waves have been outstanding here, I have absolutely loved it.”

The natural footer scored an impressive win in the quarter final when he ousted American Austin Ware with a long right-hand wave that the judges scored a 7.67 to take control of the 30 minute heat.

Things didn’t go so well in the semi when Sharpe was put right behind the eight ball by a wave Young caught that scored an incredible 9.33.

“I needed another great wave in the semi but the American surfer got that nine-point ride early and it was a hard task to catch him.”
