Sharks circle but Cowboys gallop off

FOR a while it looked like the Sharks were ready to produce their third miracle comeback in the space of a month, before the Cowboys pulled away to win 36-18 at Remondis Stadium last night.

Second-half tries to Michael Morgan, Glenn Hall and Johnathan Thurston's second sealed the result, and saw North Queensland notch its first win in Sydney for 2014.

The Cowboys shot out to a 16-0 lead thanks to tries to Tariq Sims, Thurston - who was outstanding back in his familiar role of halfback - and Antonio Winterstein.

The hosts bounced back with four-pointers to Jonathan Wright and Luke Lewis in the last five minutes of the first stanza, to trail 16-12 at the break.

Wright showed some quick initiative to strip the ball off opposite winger Winterstein, grabbing the ball out of his hands after the Cowboy defused a kick, to score.

Then Lewis ran a nice line through a hole, before putting on a right-foot step to score.

Meanwhile, doubles to Sam Burgess and Alex Johnston saw the Rabbitohs prevail

32-12 over the Eels at Pirtek Stadium in last night's other match.
