Service to tourism and community recognised at Urunga

VOLUNTEERS at Urunga Visitor Centre have received a local achievement award as part of the NSW Seniors Festival.

The award recognises the significant dedication shown in operating the Urunga centre which is open seven days a week and has been in operation for almost 20 years.

Some of the original staff are still working regular shifts and provide a very important service to tourism and the wider community.

Bellingen Mayor Mark Troy said the honour is well deserved.

“As well as providing advice to both residents and visitors on tourism related products and services the Urunga Visitor Centre sells bus and train tickets and provides driver reviver services during school holidays,” Cr Troy said.

General manager Liz Jeremy said to show appreciation, the council host an afternoon tea at the newly refurbished Raleigh Hall at 2pm on Wednesday, May 11.

Urunga Visitor Centre is always happy to welcome new volunteers.

Those willing to help should call the centre on 6655 5711.
