Service to farewell a legend

A PUBLIC memorial service to honour the memory of national rock legend Jon English will be held in Sydney on Monday April 4.

In an open invitation to fans and the entertainment industry, the Australian public are encouraged "to come celebrate Jon's life with tributes and performances in memory of Jon", at the Capitol Theatre in Campbell Street, Haymarket at 4.30pm, for a 5pm start.

The Capitol Theatre serves as a fitting location to farewell the singer actor as it is where he first starred as Judas in the famous production Jesus Christ Superstar.

It was his role as Judas that propelled English to stardom as a television, music and stage talent.

Surrounded by his family, English passed away on March 9 due to complications after surgery.

For the last decade, Boambee and the Coffs Coast had been home to English where he most recently performed at last year's Coffs Coast carols event.

English's partner, Coralea Cameron said their was no plan at this time for a public memorial in Coffs Harbour but said a local send-off for the late rocker may be considered.

Ms Cameron said was a familiar and friendly face in the Coffs Coast community.

"He was certainly well-known here. People were used to seeing him down at the supermarket," Ms Cameron said.
