Second man to face charges over Park Beach assault

POLICE have moved quickly to arrest a second man in connection with a violent assault at Park Beach at the weekend. Detectives arrested the 30-year-old at 6pm on Monday as he walked along rail tracks at Coffs Harbour.

He was charged with a total of 21 offences, including five counts of aggravated sexual assault.

Some of the charges relate to the alleged carjacking of a Commodore from a fast food restaurant drive-through on Park Beach Road about 12.30am on Monday.

The driver was not hurt and the stolen car was later recovered.

This latest arrest follows the apprehension of another man, 34, who was charged with detain for advantage, aggravated robbery, aggravated sexual assault, armed robbery and aggravated enter with intent.

Detectives are still hunting for a third man.

Police allege that shortly before 1am on Sunday, five students were at home when three men forced entry into a unit in Arthur Street.

Police have been told the men demanded property before assaulting two men, aged 19 and 26, and a 21-year-old woman.

The men fled the scene with cash and property, including computers and mobile phones.

Both men have been remanded in custody to reappear in Coffs Harbour court again on January 13, 2009.

Five counts of aggravated sexual assault (inflict actual bodily harm); three counts of aggravated sexual assault in company (threaten actual bodily harm); two counts of assault with act of indecency; four counts of aggravated robbery; aggravated enter dwelling with intent; detain in company with intent to obtain advantage (occasion actual bodily harm); detain person with intent to obtain advantage in circumstances of aggravation; aggravated assault with intent to take motor vehicle (armed with a weapon); drive vehicle in manner dangerous; drive whilst unlicensed; and speeding.
