Season-ending heartbreak summed up in a tweet

MANLY have been dealt a devastating blow three weeks out from the start of the Telstra Premiership with prop forward Darcy Lussick confirming that he will miss almost the entire 2018 season with an ankle injury.

Lussick captained the Sea Eagles in their trial game against the Sharks on Saturday night but in his first carry of the game went down with an injured left ankle and had to be assisted from the field.

On Monday morning the aggressive front-rower took to Twitter to confirm a lengthy lay-off in his own inimitable sense of humour.

The 28-year-old missed the start of the 2017 season with a wrist injury and immediately after Saturday's 30-14 trial loss to the Sharks Manly coach Trent Barrett was fearing the worst.

"We're still waiting to see how bad it is but it doesn't look particularly good at this stage, which is a shame for Darcy," Barrett said prior to the big prop having scans.

"He's had a good pre-season and it was the first tackle of the game. We'll cross our fingers and hope he's all right.

"Trials are a necessary evil I suppose. I'm just disappointed for Darcy."
