Sculptor exhibition a success
AN exhibition of works by renowned Australian sculptor Denese Oates has opened at the Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery to much applause.
“Having a show of Denese’s work is a real coup for the gallery,” said director/curator Dr Leigh Summers.
“Her pieces are represented in many prestigious Australian Galleries including Parliament House, the University of Sydney Union and the New England Regional Art Museum.
“Although Denese has been working in the field for the past 20 years, this particular exhibition will include wall-mounted and free-standing work created in the past five years.
“In addition, the gallery will also open an exhibition on the same evening of large, abstract paintings by regional artist Nicholas Daunt and we’re very lucky that both artists will be at the opening on Friday night.”
Today at 10.30am, Denese Oates will host a walk and talk through the exhibition. Entry is $5 and includes refreshments.
The Gallery is also hosting its second operatic recital tonight at 7.30pm featuring Sydney-based tenor Lorenzo Rositano and accompanist Lindsay Gilroy.
“This is a rare opportunity to hear a young tenor who is already in demand overseas.
“He is highly regarded by the Sydney Conservatorium of music where he is in his final year of operatic training,” Dr Summers said.
