SCU/Charles Sturt Uni merger a staff mystery
STAFF have been kept in the dark on a plan to merge Southern Cross University with another two universities, according to the union.
SCU made national headlines last week when it revealed plans to merge with Charles Sturt University and another yet-to-be-named regional university.
NTEU Branch President of SCU, Jenny Austin, said the union was in negotiation with management the day before the announcement of the merger, but no mention was made in the meeting.
“The management's disregard for staff to date does not fill us with much confidence about the vice-chancellor's qualified assurances,” Ms Austin said.
“They're treating us like mushrooms.”
SCU will receive $6.6 million as part of the Government's investment in the higher education sector, a one-off funding allocation based on the number of domestic students.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Clark said the funding will be available for infrastructure in information and communications technology, laboratories, libraries, teaching and student study spaces, and amenities.
