Screenwave offering long weekend chance to see world movies
CANNES Film Festival award-winning film The Lobster is the jewel in the crown of the films to feature at the Screenwave International Film Festival’s satellite cinema, Wild At Heart.
Starring Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz, the British and Irish production is a surreal love story set in the future where single people, according to the rules of “the city”, are arrested and transferred to “the hotel”.
There, they are obliged to find a matching mate in 45 days otherwise they are transformed into an animal of their choosing and released into the woods.
The Lobster is one of many cutting-edge international films to be showcased at the satellite program over this weekend, hosted by the Jetty Memorial Theatre.
Other titles screening across the weekend include the 140-minute one-take masterful action heist, Victoria; a tribute documentary to Amy Winehouse, Amy; and the outrageous comedy thriller Wild Tales from Spain.
Screenwave artistic director Kate Howat explains the concept behind the name of the festival is about engaging local audiences with international films.
“The theme of Wild At Heart is about bringing innovative, contemporary and cutting edge films from world class festivals to a local audience,” she said.
