CADDIES working for the world's best golfers can earn more than $1 million a year.

So it's probably no surprise that more than 100 applicants have contacted world No.2 Adam Scott to carry his bag after the departure of New Zealander Steve Williams.

Scott, set to make his 2014-15 US PGA Tour debut in the Word Golf Championships HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai starting today, said he was in no hurry to appoint a replacement for Williams, who worked on the bag for Tiger Woods before joining the Australian.

"I've had some really cracking offers come through," he said.

"I'm testing personalities.

"That's why I need a little more time to make a good decision.

"You can be the best player and do all the right things, but there is only one person who can influence you on the golf course, and that is the caddie."

Scott, who will have experienced American David Clark on his bag this week, will play alongside Sergio Garcia and Rickie Fowler in the first two rounds in Shanghai this week.

Fellow Aussies Matt Jones, Marc Leishman and John Senden are also in the field.
