Scorchers bowlers tear through Gold Coast at Buderim

CRICKET: Two wickets to veteran quick Ashley Renouf has the Scorchers on top in Queensland Premier Cricket's battle of the Coasts at John Blanck Oval.

With just under 30 overs bowled on the first day, the Sunshine Coast has the Gold Coast reeling at 5/115.

Further wickets to Wade Johnston, Blake Maher and Alecz Day has the side which has battled through its two-day campaign this summer in prime position.

Despite making January's T20 grand final and going down by a whisker to Sandgate-Redcliffe at Deagon, the Scorchers have only one outright and two first-innings wins in 2016/17.

The side did however, take some confidence from a first-innings win against Redlands in enemy territory last week.

Queensland Futures League player James Bazley is in action for the Scorchers and will line up for the QAS 2nd XI alongside returning T20 superstar Chris Lynn in a match starting on Monday.
