School holiday date re-scheduled

THE Orara Valley Fair has been re-scheduled for the middle weekend of the upcoming school holidays.

The fair’s organising committee postponed yesterday’s event when the Bureau of Meteorology issued a flood watch for the Coffs Coast, including the Orara River.

Secretary Diane Kingsford-Smith said the likelihood of very wet conditions made postponing the fair a relatively easy decision.

Finding another day for the big event wasn’t as straightforward when the committee came together yesterday morning.

“During our meeting we decided that it was not practical to wait until the next long weekend, which is in October,” Ms Kingsford-Smith said.

“The other consideration we had to take into account was the availability of the Upper Orara Recreation Ground.

“It is a very popular rec ground and the only day it is free is Sunday, July 10, so that’s when we will be holding the fair.

Ms Kingsford-Smith said the committee would now contact all those who had booked to be part of yesterday’s event.

“We will be working hard to make it as good a fair as we had originally planned. Let’s just hope it doesn’t rain again.”
