Scholarships music to your ears
YOUNG musicians, instrumentalists and singers are invited to make application to Coffs Harbour Regional Conservatorium for the 2013 Scholarship and Bursary Program.
Director Carol Hellmers says that the Conservatorium allocates around $20,000 to help families access music lessons for their children, including the Scholarship and Bursary Programs.
"These wonderful opportunities for young musicians to further their musical studies at the Con is made possible thanks to grant monies from the NSW Department of Education and Communities," Ms Hellmers said.
There are Junior Scholarships for those aged eight to 15 years and Senior Scholarships for students aged 15 to under 25 years.
"Approximately 80% of the cost of weekly lessons are paid for students on scholarships, leaving just a small amount for the family to pay. So they are well worth having, especially in these tough economic times.
"There is a live audition process for the Scholarship Program, which this year will be spread across two days November 17 and 18. Anyone interested just needs to complete an application form.
The Conservatorium also offers generous discounts on fees for families eligible for a Bursary.
As with the Scholarships, approximately 80% of the cost of lessons is covered, but application conditions do apply.
All students involved in music studies, whether or not they are already enrolled at the Conservatorium, are welcome to apply.
If successful however, tuition must be undertaken with a Conservatorium teacher.
The Con also has a variety of other discounts available. Families with two or more members taking lessons receive a 10% discount across all their lessons.
"The Coffs Coast has a wonderful array of talent and it is great to be able to encourage learning in this way," Ms Hellmers said.
