Scholarship Shaw is welcome

ALEC Shaw has been awarded a $15,000 scholarship to complete an information technology degree.

Mr Shaw won the Vice-Chancellor’s scholarship to study at Southern Cross University’s Coffs Harbour Campus because of ‘academic achievement’ in the 2009 HSC. “I’m really happy with it,” Mr Shaw said.

The former Orara High School student will use the money to pay for books and part of his HECS debt.

“This means I’m able to go to uni without having to worry about balancing work,” Mr Shaw said.

The scholarship was presented yesterday at Coffs Harbour campus along with scholarship awardee Justin Gaetano.

Mr Gaetano was awarded the Open Psychology Honours Scholarship for his research topic ‘Gender Bender: Sex Discrimination Capabilities of the Human Visual System’.

“It couldn’t have come at a better time,” Mr Gaetano said.

His $1000 scholarship money will go towards a new laptop to complete his studies easier.
