Schlanger qualifies second fastest

MELANIE Schlanger has qualified second fastest for the final of the women's 100 metre freestyle. 

Schlanger was just behind the leaders heading into the turn, but the 25 year-old made the last 20 metres all her own, touching the wall in 53.38.

Schlanger said she was 'really happy' with the swim, especially after not performing at her best during the Australian trials.

Meanwhile, Australian Mitch Larkin has qualified seventh fastest for the men's 200 metre backstroke final, finishing with a time of 1:56.82.
