Schindler helps lift Masters title
SAWTELL'S Scott Schindler will have plenty of stories to tell after the local surfer returned victorious from the ISA World Masters titles in Ecuador.
The local board rider hit the waves for Team Australia alongside fellow Coffs Coast surfer Charlie O'Sullivan and women's surfing legend Layne Beachley.
Although bowing out of the individual competition in the third round, Schindler secured gold in the Tag Team event.
"Surfing the world championships was an incredible experience," Schindler said.
"It was like competing at the Olympics and the team were an amazing group of people - definitely something I will never forget."
The Sawtell local took on former world champion Sonny Garcia.
"It was pretty cool to come up against so many of the big names in surfing," he said.
"I wasn't intimidated at all to surf against guys like Sonny but you could definitely see the skills and experience which made him one of the best.
"I'm now able to say I'm a world champion."
