Scam artist on Coast

A SCAMMER is thought to be doing the rounds on the Coffs Coast falsely claiming he is fundraising for Queensland Emergency Services.

A Bellingen bank teller has brought the scam to the attention of police.

She donated $20 to a man collecting for the fund this week, later finding out the cause was fraudulent.

Coffs Clarence Police Supervisor Sergeant Frank Cook said the phone numbers on the receipts the man is handing out are fictitious and the ABN number that’s featured doesn’t exist, strong proof the collection is dodgy.

“It appears from all inquiries this man is an impersonator and residents particularly in the Bellingen community need to be aware of this,” Sergeant Cook said.

The person of interest is described as being aged in his late 20s, of medium build, with thin legs, about five foot tall with peroxide blonde hair.
