Say Haya pounces for Baylee in winning stable debut

A CHARMED race run for leading Queensland apprentice Baylee Nothdurft helped pave the way for Eagle Farm filly Say Haya to make a winning debut for the Tony Gollan stable at Clifford Park today.

Say Haya ($4.80) enjoyed a perfect trailing run in transit behind Devil's Temptation and General Witt before asserting her superiority in the home straight to score by 1 1/4 lengths in the Happy 30th Birthday Alexandra QTIS Three-Year-Old Class 1 Handicap (1000m).

Resuming Devil's Temptation ($4) held on strongly for second with $3 favourite Secondofmay coming from last on the home turn to be a length back third.

Nothdurft said Say Haya had put the writing on the wall for a return to the winner's list in her lead-up work after recently joining the Gollan yard.

"She jumped good, relaxed good and hit the line well,” Nothdurt said.

"She only came to Tony's a couple of weeks ago.

"She's done nothing but please us in her work since arriving and has followed that up with a good effort today.”

Nothdurft made it two wins for the day after linking with his former boss Lindsay Hatch aboard upset winner My Belly Button ($12) in the Queensland Electrical Solutions Class 1 Handicap (1200m).

My Belly Button grabbed his second career win from 11 outings with a strong-finishing half-length victory over Phoenix Flyer ($9.50).

"It's good to come up and win a race for Hatchy,” Nothdurft said.

"This horse is still a bit immature in the head.

"But there is plenty of upside to him and he can continue winning around this level.”

# JOCKEYS Carly Frater and Nathan Thomas were transferred to hospital for observations after both were dislodged from their mounts Catch Me Latar and Strike Sika on the home turn during the running of the Enterprise Legal Benchmark 62 Handicap (2150m).

The race was won by the Kevin Kemp-trained Talapus ($2.70 fav) for jockey Emma Ljung.

# THE plan went perfectly to script for Toowoomba trainer Jackie Crompton and her family when Ritchford charged to an emotional victory at Tara yesterday in the race named in memory of her late father.

Ritchford - a recent stable purchase - raced to a 5 1/2-length win over $3.20 favourite Splitz for jockey Cecily Eaton in the Western Downs Regional Council/Ken Dowling Memorial Country CC Qualifier/Tara Cup (1400m).

Crompton's father Ken Dowling, who passed away in May this year, was a long-standing trainer based at Tara where his wife Rhonda is the current race club secretary.

"We bought him (Ritchford) specifically to have a starter in the race,” Crompton told the Dalby Herald.

"I was just hoping that he would race well because we had so many family here today.

"It's nice when they can race well while they're here, but to win it, I just couldn't believe it.”

THE Mark Currie-trained WRITE THE RULES gave nothing else a look in with a slick debut performance in the 870-metre Maiden Plate.

TOOWOOMBA trainer MATT BOLAND added another winner to his team tally when Buzzer Beater dug deep for stable apprentice Monty Savva to stave off 2.05 favourite Miss Dynamic for a game Maiden Handicap victory. A sizzling Class 2 win by Pieridae wrapped up a winning LINDSAY HATCH double after his earlier win with My Belly Button.

APPRENTICE BAYLEE NOTHDURFT (two) and in-form EMMA LJUNG (three) dominated the eight-race program with a total of ?? wins between them.

Race 1: Good money for most runners in the opening race. General Witt saw $200 eachway at 7.00. Secondofmay was easy to lay at 3.60. Devil's Temptation was impossible to lay and bookies were 4.50 with no takers. The winner Say Haya was a shortner at the jump 5.00 into start 4.80 and ws a good result for the bookies to start off.

Race 2: A quiet betting race. The connections were on Ruffin' It at 12.00. Bookies had to go 5.00 to see any money for Uno Eyno. The winner Write The Rules was backed heavily on the QOP, 4.20 into start 3.10 and paid well unders on the tote.

Race 3: A small field, but plenty of interest in most runners. Bernie's Tiger was specked at 12.00, Colum saw money at 3.0 and there a phone bet of $800 at 3.00. Lotza saw little money at 5.50. The connections were on the winner Benico's Prince at 5.00, for a nice little collect.

Race 4: A good betting race and bookies got to lay most of the runners. Fat Max was hard to lay and bookies had to bet 4.00 to see any money. Proud Roc was the big shortener in betting 5.50 into start 4.40 and a phone bet of $1000 at 4.50. The winner My Belly Button was a drifter on the QOP and started at 12.0.

Race 5: Here punters were keen on Miss Dynamic at 2.5 into start 2.10. The phones rang at 2.30 and there was one phone bet of $800 at 2.30. Hearts like Ours was specked at 14.00. There was no money for Off Course. The winner Buzzer Beater saw money at 11.00 and started 16.00 on the QOP.

Race 6: Here punters wanted only the two runners in Tavisfaction at 6.00 and the winner Talapus. Talapus was backed from 4.00 into start 2.70 and again paid unders on the tote. This was bad result for bookies.

Race 7: Just Favulous saw a phone bet of $500 eachway at 5.00. Little John's connections were on at 11.0. There was rough specking for Essaka 31.00. The favourite and winner Charlotte's Heart was hard to lay early and when the bookies went 2.80, the money came on track, a phone bet of $1200 at 2.70 made it a bad result for one bookie.

Race 8: There was small specking for Spartan Jet at 12.00. Pieridae was a drifter on track and the more it drifted the more the punters put on. When it got to 1.90, there was a cash bet of $1000 at the 1.90 to send bookies home on a losing note.
