Sawtell's latest signings on show

SAWTELL fans will get a good sight on home soil of the club’s new signings when the Panthers trial against Old Bar Pirates (Group3) at Rex Hardaker Oval today.

The club pulled off a major strategic coup in the off-season by enticing Coffs Coast Advocate player of the year Danny Russell across from Bellinger Valley-Dorrigo.

Not to mention the signing of former Test prop Richard Villasanti who made a cameo appearance in the trial with Wingham Tigers last Saturday.

Media officer Peter English said the composition of the visitors’ side will attract plenty of local interest.

“The Pirates have built up down there and are supposed to have a pretty good side,” he said.

“Former Coffs boy Michael Spence has joined them from the Brisbane Broncos and of course the Blanchette boys, Ben and Ty, are ex-Comets.”

The under-18s, coached by league legend Brad Hart, kick off at 4pm with seniors to follow.

Another Group 3 visitor, Camden Haven Eagles, is playing a full set of trials today at Woolgoolga Sports Ground with under-18s starting at 2.30pm.

With new coach Greg Shuttleworth at the helm, the Seahorses unveil new recruits Mark Pledger, Anthony Coyle, Ben Gilbert, Clark Webb, Matt Cheeseman, and David Mitchell, along with John Mitchell who returns after a year with Valley United Spartans in the Manly competition.

The club’s junior side also oozes class and will be one of the leading candidates for the 2011 Group 2 title.
