Sawtell occupy the box seat after day one of CHDCA final
MUSCLES were flexed and Sawtell's fighting spirit shone through with a tidy innings of 260 on day one of the Coffs Harbour District Cricket preliminary final.
Back on home soil at Richardson Park and smarting from last weekend's shock defeat by Plantation Colts, the Blue Caps knuckled down to the challenge and set opponent Park Beach Bowling Club Colts a tricky target to chase owhen play resumes on Sunday.
Everybody at the top end of the card made it into double figures.
Colts ddelivered a double-double whammy by removing Mitchell and Welsh on 55, then Oates and Angus on 94.
But a handy 44 knock from Dave Langford-Smith provided momentum and from that moment the upward creep began towards a very handsome total.
However, ever-positive Colts' veteran Matt Rose was far from disappointed by the day's events.
"On that deck you'd expect runs to come," he said.
"Our bowlers did a great job to keep going for 77 overs and restrict their scoring to not much more than three runs and over.
"And don't forget that if Sawtell can get that many, we can do it as well if we apply ourselves.
"Is Craig Haworth still the best batsman in the comp?
"A lot of our blokes have scored half centuries this season and it's now the time to shine."
Play resumes at 1pm Sunday.
