Sawtell, Nana Glen are on top

AS the cricket season draws stumps for the festive period, last year's grand finalists occupy the top two positions on the ladder.

Both Sawtell and Nana Glen were able to defend modest totals on Saturday to secure vital pre-Christmas points.

Nana Glen dismised Diggers for only 93 with Nicklaus Stanlan-Velt wrapping up man of the match honours by taking six wickets after making an important unbeaten 34 the week before.

Any hopes Coffs Colts had of reaching their target against Sawtell were dashed early when Colts lost four wickets shortly after the resumption for only nine runs.

At 7-31, Matt Rose and Aiden Statham tried to build a rearguard action but it was two little too late.

David Angus-Crouch and Pat Myles took the lion's share of the wickets.

The competition will resume after a Christmas/New Year break on January 6.
