Sarina club honoured to host big Qld comp
A SARINA club is celebrating 15 years next month and has been given an incredible opportunity to mark the milestone.
Alligator Creek ITF Taekwon-Do will this year host the Queensland State Titles for the sport. The Worldwide Taekwon-Do event is normally held in larger cities like Townsville, Cairns or Brisbane.
Owners of the Alligator Creek club, Neville and Bronte Ward, are ecstatic about the news. Mrs Ward said it was a huge honour to host such a prestigious event in her little town.

"It is never held in a regional area so this is a really big deal," she said.
"We have already had confirmation that 160 competitors will be attending.

"That includes a Townsville group, Mackay, Rockhampton and we have even had interest from NSW clubs."
The competition is scheduled for May 30 and will coincide with the club's 15th birthday celebrations.

Mrs Ward said she was grateful to Sarina State Primary School for providing the venue for the event, but more than $1000 still needed to be raised for medals and trophies.
"We are planning to have raffles and events to raise money but any donations from the community would be incredible," she said.
"We would be thrilled if some local businesses wanted to get on board as sponsors."

The Alligator Creek club first opened in 2005 after Mr Ward saw a need to service Sarina's outer suburbs.
Operating out of the Alligator Creek Primary School hall ever since, the club has had between 35 and 55 members every year. A whopping 10 students will this year participate in their black belt grading, a huge achievement for any club.
