Saints second quarter a killer

THE Sawtell juggernaut continues to roll on after another dominant display at Richardson Park against the Magpies.

In a watershed first-half the Saints poured on the pain for their travelling counterparts. A nine-goal second quarter ensured the match was effectively over by half-time when the margin had already blown out to an insurmountable 77 points.

The spoils were again shared in another exemplary team performance.

Ben Hooke is the unbackable favourite for the leading goalkicker of the competition as he kicked another eight against the hapless Port defence.

There was some respite for the Magpies after half-time but the damage was already done.

Ethan Kelly who returned to the Saints’ line-up after recovering from an injury was strong in the ruck and around the ground. He was well supported by the usual suspects in Simon Taylor and Mark Couzens in the midfield. There were few positives to write home about for the Magpies. Liam Carroll battled hard but with a crippling injury toll they proved no match for the premiership favourites.
