Saints out to end Bears’ winning cup streak

USQ will be out to gather some winning Risdon Cup momentum when it looks to stop the menacing Toowoomba Bears in their tracks at USQ Oval today.

The matches promises to produce a spirited early season contest.

Bears have proved to be the competition’s big movers after just four rounds.

they chase a fourth successive win today after pushing premiers Goondiwindi during their only cup loss to date in round one.

Waiting for them this afternoon is last year’s beaten grand finalists who posted their first season win last week after a stop-start beginning to the year.

Saints today welcome back representative five-eighth Angus Ramsey for their first home match for 2016.

“It was disappointing to come away with losses against Condamine and Dalby after we led both those games,” Uni coach Gary Lancaster said. yesterday

“We’ve also had an early bye which didn’t come at a bad time for us but this week we’ve virtually got everyone on deck including Gus (Ramsey).

“Bears will be tough.

“I think they’ve built a young, mobile team who have been proving a handful for teams in the early rounds.

“But this is our first home game tomorrow and after getting a couple of away games and a bye over early we’re looking now to start building.”

# IN OTHER matches today, Goondiwindi hosts Condamine; Toowoomba Rangers travel to UQ Gatton and St George is away to Roma.
