Sailors gear up

AFTER a busy festive period that included the Pittwater to Coffs Harbour yacht race and the offshore series, the attention of local sailors is now turning to the Twilight Series that is set to resume tonight.

The second part of the Bellbowrie Motors Audi Twilight Series is expected to attract an increased throng of spectators at the end of the Jetty to watch this evening’s start at 5.30pm.

After the mid-season break, skippers and crews are champing at the bit for a return to localracing.

Some crew members that participated in the recent offshore series could well be trying out a few new moves learned over the past couple of weeks at the start line and around the buoys this evening.

Seasoned Coffs Harbour sailors Andrew Duguid and Graeme Patterson sailed from Pittwater to Coffs recently aboard Seahawk and will be sailing on the B52 again as the crew searches for a series victory.

Coffs Harbour Yacht Club commodore Gary Innes was excited about the return of the twilight series and said yesterday that anybody is welcome to give the sport a try.

“Anyone with a desire to try sailing should contact the Coffs Harbour Yacht Club on 6652 4390 from 11am weekdays and leave their name and a contact number,” he said.

“More often than not the skippers can make a place available in the crew for someone to join in.”
