Ryan Reynolds making Home Alone spin-off
HOME Alone is being remade … well, sort of.
Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds is producing a Home Alon e-inspired movie, dubbed Stoned Alone.
The grown-up comedy is said to be "reminiscent of that hallowed comedy classic", according to Deadline.
The movie will centre around a "twenty-something week growing loser who misses the plane for his holiday ski trip", the site says.
But Stoned Alone will not be an official spin-off of Home Alone - one of Hollywood's top-grossing comedies of all-time, which raked in nearly $477 million at the box office.
No stars have yet to be attached to the project.
Deadline says Stoned Alone is being developed by movie studio Fox and will be directed by Augustine Frizzell (Never Goin' Back).
The plot, Deadline reports, revolves around a "twenty-something weed growing loser who misses the plane for his holiday ski trip".
"He makes the best of things by getting high. Paranoia sets in and he believes he hears someone break into his house.," the site says.
"Turns out thieves have broken in. Fully stoned and fuelled by paranoia, he tries to thwart the thieves and defend his castle."
Home Alone spawned a sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, also starring Culkin, and third and fourth instalments, Home Alone 3 and Home Alone 4, which did not feature the bankable child star.
Meantime, Reynolds, 41, recently revealed his battle with anxiety.
Speaking to the New York Times, the father of two said: "I have anxiety, I've always had anxiety".
"Both in the lighthearted 'I'm anxious about this' kind of thing, and I've been to the depths of the darker end of the spectrum, which is not fun."
Reynolds, who is married to Blake Lively and was once engaged to Alanis Morissette, said he partied hard in the early stages of his career.
"I was partying and just trying to make myself vanish in some way," Reynolds said.
He said he counters the anxiety he feels when promoting his movies by doing interviews in-character as his Deadpool character.
"When the curtain opens, I turn on this knucklehead, and he kind of takes over and goes away again once I walk off set," Reynolds said.
"That's that great self-defence mechanism," Reynolds added. "I figure if you're going to jump off a cliff, you might as well fly."
No release date has yet been set for Stoned Alone.
