RV dump idea is canned

THE plug has been pulled on a push to establish a low-cost dump point in Macksville for motorhomes users.

Local resident Bob Phipps had been campaigning to make the valley RV friendly and put it in a position to capitalise on the $40 million mobile home travellers spend each day in Australia.

But his push to establish limited camping for self-contained vehicles and to have a dump point installed at the Macksville Showgrounds has failed.

The Macksville Showground committee of management told council it could not administer such a facility with volunteers and that with minimal fees an unsupervised system would not be viable.

The committee also expressed concerns about the illegal dumping of waste and the potential conflict with other users of the showground.

The council voted to shelve the plan but not before Mr Phipps delivered a broadside.

“The dump point would have brought considerable benefits to the entire valley,” Mr Phipps said in an address to council.

“It is a disgrace that the future of the shire is being ruined by the progress blockers,” he said.
