KEEP RUNNING: Jess Deans was back in the winner’s circle on Sunday in the Mid North Coast Cross Country Series.

Runner Jess makes it a double

JESS Deans was back with a vengeance in the Coffs Creek Walkway edition of the MNC Cross Country Series, taking out the 2km and 5km events.

No less impressive was the running of eight-year-old Daniel Williams, who chased Jyii Mann home in the 2km and followed with an even closer finish to Mitchell Karrasch in the 5km.

Both runs were under 4 minutes per kilometre pace.

Mann impressed with his win in the 2km and followed up with a third in the 5km.

Tony Woolford looked to be in for a rare defeat in the 10km until the lack of local knowledge by American visitor Adam Irons saw him take a wrong turn on the way back to the finish.

Woolfoord finished with 38.18 to Irons’ 39.46. Ed Brazier kept both honest with a 39.58. Tina Thompson broke through for victory in the women’s race despite a detour of her own near halfway.

Next week the series shifts to Urunga. Runners are asked to meet on the reserve opposite the hotel.
