Runaway runs ahead of fleet to win Coffs To Paradise race

LIVING up to it's name, Runaway led from go to whoa to win the first Bartercard Coffs To Paradise Yacht Race.

Originally scheduled to start on Thursday from Coffs Harbour Jetty, wild weather forced the starter to delay the take off until 8am Friday.

Once the fleet was underway, Runaway bounced to the front and was never headed.

Owned by Drew Carruthers, the Sayer 11 boat took line honours in Southport at 12.59am on Saturday.

Runaway crossed a full three hours ahead of Ocean Gem, followed closely by Frantic.

With a couple of days break from sailing, the majority of the fleet will be competing in the Bartercard Sail Paradise Regatta starting this Wednesday.
